The Values and Development Square is a practical and powerful coaching tool that helps clients understand, balance, and work through conflicting values, exaggerated behaviours, and tension between personal strengths. Based on the well-established model developed by Paul Helwig and refined by Friedemann Schulz von Thun, this framework enables individuals to explore opposing values and recognise how each value has both a healthy expression and an exaggerated form.

As described on page 2, the model uses four quadrants: two positive opposing values at the top and their exaggerated, negatively loaded versions at the bottom. This simple structure makes it easier for clients to see how overusing a strength can become a weakness—and how its opposite value can bring needed balance.
